The disney Affect

In class this week we watched the we took the time to look at various things which I will describe through out my blog we visited we talked about the Disney affect. The Disney affect is basically having young girl fit into the "Disney Princess" mentality that you have to be saved by a man be non-educated and your old fashion"woman. Give  up something for a male which leads me to my example Ariel she gave her voice up for a man and he gives up nothing.

I guess subliminally little girls are learning you have to give things up for a mans love and  to be pretty and skinny and have long hair and perfect shape. Then they can grow up thinking that is the equivalent to the meaning of pretty. I feel Disney movies are still good and I grew up on them and I feel I am fine I think those movies are fine and they are great to grow up with as longs as the parents ensure the difference between fairy tale and real world. As long as little girls one is possible but love is not just the females responsibility .


We also watched a video with two males and females kissing  and there was a noise made in the class that our professor felt offensive. I was the noise and it was not because it was Male on male or female on female I believe my professor forgot I'm the same girl who gets freaked out to watch her parents kiss tongues are just disgusting to me and it freezer framed on an awkward part of  there tongues touching it could have been male or female or two dogs kissing and I still would have been freaked out. I feel my professor is stuck in his own mind of everyone thinking homosexuals are offensive find love how you find I feel who am I to stop it. Both of these things talked about our stereotypes and pay no mind to stereotypes or feed into them because in a all reality if I did  as black woman should be on section 8 collecting Welfare fresh off of Maury not knowing the father of my 5 kids but I'm not. As long as we continue to train up a child in the way they should good leaving open minds then we can start to make a slight change in our society. Should I have made the noise no it was not appropriate but he went on a whole frenzy when the homosexuals was not even the issue.

I HATE the new I repeat I HATE THE NEWS

Okay so all my friends and family are very aware that I HATE THE NEWS. I mean I know I should watch it so I know what is going on around me but i cannot stand the news. I can tell or what is on the news before i watch it. A black man went to jail, a black man got shot and killed and a black man killed. Some little white girl is missing and then if it is football season we will have  40 mints focusing on the Steelers.  So we HAD to watch the News and track and I was right Black men went to jail, There is a little girl missing and has been for about 2 weeks now and of course we spent time watching 30 minutes about our steelers and where  Big Ben will be traveling in his free time. I do not care where Ben is going at all I rather get my news from Twitter and Facebook wait for my mom to call me in the morning. Even when the covered the woman that dropped her niece out the window I wanted more information than they supplied me with and it should have been longer!!!! Ill stick with my mother as my new resource and Twitter new depresses me anyways.

Is it funny or Insulting.

Of course we have all heard the statement " Laugh with them "  or  heard of someone making a bad situation funny. How far is to far. This blog is going to have a focus on "Satire". Satire the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing,denouncing, or deriding vice, folly. I am re-introducing a video I have used before in a previous blog. I feel it is such a good fit and will help illustrate my point of view.

 This video is a clip from the Dave Chappel Show. "The Niggar Family" in this it takes basic stereotypes and assumption about African Americans and pokes fun at it by having it be a "white" family. 

In this video it visits a lot of stereotypes concerning the physical attributes, characteristic of "African Americans"

. They talk about lips its is said that black people have fuller lips.They talk about a white man basically not wanting his white daughter dating a black male. Touch on that tardiness and even how we could be treated at a restaurant. 

The next video I came across is about a man who did not know he was black and believed in WHITE POWER ! Talks about not only race issues but homosexual and other world issues that are often talked about teased and greatly discussed. 

I watched both of these clips with  mother who did not find the humor in either video. She states "it is to painful". Is everything meant to be joked about. I challenged my mother with the statement maybe its taking the power out of the people who say these type of things to be hurtful or spiteful and turning it around. Switching the tables to laugh at pain. I think of it as in the way if i fall in front of people I will laugh as well so I can not feel any type of embarrassing any type of emotion that makes me feel uneasy and uncomfortable. Focusing on the use of "N" word my mom was one of the people that had sit in and experience the real use of the word. Does it make it okay to take the power out of the world and make it common or is there still power behind it. How would those who got beat while being called a "nigga" feel that it is no used so loosely. Do i find this funny well I sm still on the fence I can laugh but there is still a feeling of being offended in my soul.

FAKE YOUR BEAUTY: The Models we wish we looked like, wish they looked like themselves as well.

What is pretty, what is considered beauty. The standard of beauty is basic skinny, white or light long hair and eyes nose lips contoured and sculpted to perfection. Although the imagine of beauty sticks to it standard it seems that it changes , skinny get skinnier, noses get more and more plastic looking, the ultimate goal is to look like they plastic painted Barbie. We watched a clip I have seen before  a little girl picking what in her mind is the image of beauty. She was  given the same doll one white one black and to pick which one displays the image and meaning of beauty; she picked the white doll without hesitation. Here we are in the new millennium and a young African American girl has picked an Caucasian with out thinks for being the imagine of beauty. So does that leave her to feel as if she does not amount to what america or society considers pleasing to the eye. Why is this why does she feel this way because that is what she see, kids are little recorders  and when you hit play they reenact or blurt what the see and hear. If society is only showing one imagine of beauty and she does not fit it then she will not think. Which could lead to self esteem issue which more than 40% girls have in america. With 92% wanting to change something about their imagine Looking at these images of perfection on tv, magazines, videos have some girl bossed with trying to gain the imagine they see because not only do they compare themselves to these celebrity woman, the boys see these images to and hold such a high and un-achievable standard of beauty that the celebrity women in these pictures have not even reached. Yes you read right the woman in the picture aren't the woman in the pictured they are photo shopped. Now if I could get photo-shopped before I left the house than would i change the standard of beauty. These celebrity's better thank Jesus for computers. Even photo shopped can leave you looking like an fool.

So all Black girls Shake their BOOTY

Had to write  my blog all over again because my laptop shutdown its self. AANNNYYWAAAY

How do you view yourself, how do others view you.... how do you want to  be viewed. Imagine you live in East-South of Nowhere and your only portal to life or other cultures and  ethnicity's' was set channels. The question we are to focus on for this weeks blog is basically does the media depict what or who we are in essence that is the question. I do not feel that media or any form of it can show who you are judging off of race or social  ranking. A lot that media displays is stereotype. My professor said while he was away teaching, only American streaming station was BET. Now i would not want a bunch of impressionable kids to think that every black girl in america displays and carry's themselves like what they show. Not all videos are bad but regardless of what they show I am not them.

Now I am a 20 year old Black female I am in school  and i am not shaking my back all crazy on tv. No not knocking what these young ladies decided to do as there profession but i do not need someone  thinking that i am okay with some man sliding a card down my back side. 

It is not just in the black community or things stereotyped  white people are too. They are painted to be this imagine of great riches and education. All white people are not rich or smart. They make you think all Mexicans are working as bus boys at some restaurant. 

Even the news when do you ever see some Hispanic or black on the news in a positive light... "Don't worry I'll wait" . Media shows a lot of stereotypes and very little real life or fact.

 Reality Shows as well i was just watching Keeping up with the Kardashins and Kim was crying over loosing her earring where there are kids not crying of the death of loved ones something so much bigger and her stupid earring was insured. I was disgusted i would not want to be viewed as an american like that past race color AMERICAN. I would think we were all materialistic if that is all I was being showed.  

As an African American I do not like they way my race is shown or viewed.

I'll take POP CULTURE for 200 Alex!

In class sitting going over notes from the previous class then all the sudden you hear "POP QUIZ" get out some paper. I am thinking "OH NO" trying to mentally go over all of the notes and things we went over in class. Then the questions appear on the screen; Who is the famous for being famous person who just got married. Kim K. of course, next question What couple did TMZ report are separating after 13 years of marriage: Will and Jada. After three more questions I figured it was all pop culture questions. "Question number six" Who is the Governor I do not know I figure he is some old guy who probably wears some old boring suit. Needless to say we had five questions like this so it clicked in my head these are comparison questions POP CULTURE vs. POLITICAL CULTURE my peers and I are lab rats. We all did a lot better when it came to pop culture. Why is this?

I feel like the definition of news and need to know information has changed over years. It is no longer news to know the governor or who is on the supreme court but , to know which famous person has done what. I know in Pittsburgh that if the Steelers do anything  it is breaking news.  News stations are  longer are only source of where we get information. We turn to social sites and each other. For example when the earthquake happen I know myself personally did not go read the news paper did not turn on WPXI , but instead grabbed my phone and hit my twittter app. Sad okay maybe just a little , but it is the truth. As we grow and technology and entertainment what is are basic news is no longer considered news. For people my age we do not watch the news like we should. So the things that we identify are not probably what our parents would identify as news. It reaches down to a the lower generation the can recognize simple places like  fast food before Jesus.

I personally hate watching the news because it is the same sad song. Someone got shot, someone was found dead and some other crap that is desensitizing my generation,  We are so use to someone are age getting shot and dying its becoming the norm. I do not take time to read the newspaper and it is a flaw of mine with some many changes happening in the world I should be more aware but I am not. I rather watch someone spice up the news give us a different way to find out about it. That is not so harsh and heart breaking. Like the break in that happen I did not find out about that on channel four but on Youtube. 

Yellow Journalism is more interesting to me than boring old news that makes me wanna go find something to cheer me up

I am worried in where our generation might end up if we do not start taking notice to political news just as much as pop culture.

Do you pay as much attention to whats going on with the stimulus package to if  Kims butt is real?

Do you run Media, or does Media Run YOU.

Here I am blogging something I thought I would never do. So bare with me I am not computer savvy. I can type tweet, facebook, shop and some other things but, blogging it is a pretty gray area for me.

Media, something everyone partakes in wither you want to or not; try or try to avoid.  Regardless if your reading who slept with who, is Kim K but is real ,or watching and tracking what is going on with hurricane Irene. You are still involved in media. Media comes in all different type of packages: words, gestures, radio, internet, and more. As years go by media stays around just the delivery changes as technology enhances. 

  Starting this new communications class my Professor gave us three questions to think about. First one being  what role does media play in daily life. I think what role doesn't media play in daily life. With the new social networks and all the news be sensationalized it is a big role. Youth these days wake up to twitter go asleep to TMZ.  Media is the bread butter to our generation and with the new technology we are always connected to any form we choose. Media creates social forum' class topics, disputes and things to do in spare time.

    The Second question was "Do you Consume or put out Media". I feel it was one big recycling circle we  We put out and out it. We as people consume tell someone else and keep it traveling. A swell as adding our own thoughts and opinions. People interpret and  pass on what the hear or what the found was interesting from what they hear. What the saw paintings tattoos and more. One thing I find to be funny is War of the Worlds by H.G Wells it was a a radio broadcast about aliens taking over our world on Oct. . This being a new form of media  people took it way serious and spazed kinda sorta. We have grown so far from just radio broadcast to reality shows, shows, scripted dramas and more. Media continues to grow!

Last but not least i hope to obtain enough knowledge to start my communications path because this will be my career and my life. I would like to get a full understanding of communications and all its components. Learn in a fun and fascinating way, and a passing grade would not hurt lol jkjkjk. 

I hope this blog was okay as time goes by I PROMISE to try to be better.
